Botanical Art With A Twist
Threads That Bind – Let's bind together the Natural Pigments of Tropical Australia and The Fabulous Papers of Italy, to make a piece of Art.
Italian Artists - Anna Massinissa and Margherita Totori bring a whole new knowledge and creative experimentation and interpretation to the world of natural dyes and organic pigments.
We are excited to have them with us in Cairns – Australia, for this Workshop – 10th September 2023, to share with us their techniques and creative inspiration.
This is an opportunity to gain insight into their unique style and understand their use and impressions on paper of natural, organic dyes from plants and from other natural pigment origins to create a world of art only nature can produce..
Anna Massinissa is an Exhibiting Artist and also the Curator of FabrianoInAcquarello – Italy, the international Art Symposium which has run for 14 years and which we have just recently enjoyed in Italy in April/May 2023. Together with Margherita Totori, also an experienced Exhibiting Artist and an expert of natural dyeing plants, they will introduce us to the challenges they have faced in exploring the use of natural dyeing plants on natural fiber materials, the fun will be experimenting with them with Australian plants and the outcomes that come from this as the 2 days progress!
Anna will be bringing her wealth of knowledge regarding the papers of Fabriano origin.
We will work on 100% cotton paper and on 100% cotton and silk textile, the very same ancient technique used by the monks in Europe, in Medieval times to decorate textile materials.
As an added bonus, during the Workshop Anna and Margherita, will be sharing their creative ‘Installation’ techniques, this is a huge moment and opportunity to learn with these two Internationally based creative Artists here on our shores.
