Let’s capture the life and the landscape right there in front of us! So often we walk into a landscape or street scene that immediately catches the eye or captivates us visually. It may be the natural landscape, architecture or people in urban context that we focus on, or simply the way light falls and creates shadows and highlights in the scene.
Ways of seeing are so important, and everyone sees slightly differently. Then after observation comes the challenge and joy of interpreting and depicting the vision on paper or canvas in a creative way. We will see that working en plein air is the very best way to experience and understand the subject.
We will commence in the studio by reviewing the kinds of easily transportable equipment and setup we might use to tackle working en plein air so as to be able to get around the countryside or city and achieve meaningful results.
You may wish to use the ‘traditional’ watercolour technique or may prefer line drawing with pen, pencil or brush. Your choice. I will demonstrate both these approaches and discuss how simple principles of perspective can assist with drawing.
At an appropriate time we will go outside for a couple of sketches/paintings in the gardens, then return at the end for a review of our work.
** Please note | we will have the Art Suppliers with us - with their Trade Tables - so you will be able to buy materials at 'The Court House Cairns' and you won't have to carry them all as luggage!
