Granulation is a fun and unique characteristic of watercolour medium achieved by sedimentary watercolour pigments creating interesting grainy, spotty, mottled textures. These effects are emphasised further by creating little rivulets by giving a directional flow to the granulating pigments using the simple gravity.
This workshop aims to explore these magical effects using the pigment qualities to add excitement, character and spectacular dimensions to watercolour paintings. These methods and approaches offer a versatile array of new possibilities using the watercolour medium and set on a journey of creative fun.
In this one-day workshop, participants will be taken through a comprehensive introduction to the granulation technique while painting with loose, wet into wet techniques. Instructions will be given on selecting the right watercolour pigments that granulate, the use of granulating medium, tips and tricks on how to achieve these fascinating textural techniques and the right type of paper to enhance these effects further.
This well-structured workshop includes many show and tell materials, and small demonstrations. Following few, quick studies, participants will aim to complete one painting under the guidance with a step-by-step approach from start to finish.
By the end of this course, participants will gain a wider appreciation and understanding of pigment qualities, learn how to control the fluidity of the medium to achieve granulation effects, use the wet-into-wet techniques and approaches to create fresh, bold, free, loose paintings with exciting textures.
Suitable for all levels, beginners to experienced.
