ARTIST NOTES: Food Art is evocative.
It not only conveys subsistence, but has the power to call forth place, time and narrative: transcending barriers, where Australia’s colourful, cultural diversity offers an incredible range of culinary pleasures - from the celebratory to the uniquely simple.

My approach, was to translate edible art into visual art through discovery: using a thick over thin application, reminiscent of oil painting techniques.

I was delighted to see how acryla gouache, when diluted, achieved the transparency of traditional watercolour, giving velvety layers that handle heavy overpainting without shifting, allowing milky to creamy applications of gouache together with layers of professional watercolour to build value and chroma.

I found by mixing traditional watercolour with acryla gouache, I was able to achieve a variety of subtle colour variations - subduing granulation and shine from more full-bodied applications.

ARTIST BIO

From my studio on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, I enjoy working in a variety of media. With a foundation in classical drawing and painting, my art practice is underpinned by a love for larger-than-life, realistic works, which magnify the detail of my subjects.
