ARTIST BIO

I have had a varied career in journalism, health and academia, specialising in the fields of health communication, disease control and emergency management. Prior to retirement from full-time work in 2015, I worked as an associate lecturer at James Cook university in Cairns, and as a public health consultant for the World Health Organization. In early retirement, I worked as a freelance editor and as a WHO researcher on COVID-19.

I am largely a self-taught artist, helped along by the occasional painting workshop. My painting is influenced by my love of nature and travel. I am inspired by my own tropical garden in Cairns, as well as by historic and bucolic scenes encountered on my travels to Europe.

Most of my work has been watercolour on paper, but I have recently begun painting watercolour on to specially prepared deep-edge canvases, which can be hung without a frame.

I had my first solo exhibition this year at Vivo Art Room, Palm Cove, Cairns. I have also had paintings hung in the Cairns Art Gallery and Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns during Cairns Art Society exhibitions. I was chosen as a digital exhibition artist for the 2025 Australian Watercolour Muster.
